Long Weekend in the Ardennes- June 1-5th, 2011

On Wednesday June 1st we packed up the car and drove to Southeastern Belgium, an area known as the Ardennes.  About a couple hours later we made it to our resort "The Sunparks".  Since this was a holiday weekend (Ascension Holiday) they were very busy!  The kids loved the indoor wavepool and waterpark, but we made a trip to the famous Coo Falls and rode the chairlift to the top of the hill at Aidan's request, then we made a journey to the Haan Caves.  We found a very cool village where we visited a fuedal castle from the 14th century and Aidan even got to be a part of a falconry show.
The town of La Roche on the drive to the the Han Cave which is near the village of Hans-Sur-Lesse

We also took a safari ride through the animal park at Han.  We saw a bear, dear, owls, wolves and many other animals.  Jax fell asleep during the ride.

The boys collected sticks around our cabin for a fire. Unfortunately it ended up raining and we did not have a fire.

Next are pictures from the Feudal Castle in La Roche en Ardenne.

The boys in the prison tower.

Aidan took this picture for us.

Not the background we wanted in the picture, but at least it is a family picture.

Here is Aidan shooting his first bow and arrow.

The falconry show was in Dutch and French so we did not understand what they were saying but we enjoyed the show. Aidan raised his hand and then asked to come up and hold the owl. Another boy in the audience had just done it and Aidan wanted to too. The guys were very nice and spoke English for us.

We have taken the time to go into a few churches on our travels and Aidan is mesmorized. He would sit in a church for a very long time if we let him. Unfortunately Jaxon does not feel the same so I always end up taking him out.
The choir was practicing and Aidan was not happy to have to leave.

It was a great trip lots of interesting places to see and many more to come.
